EMBALSE DE PEÑARROYA

El embalse de Peñarroya es la primera barrera artificial con la que se encuentran las aguas del río Guadiana. Se trata de un embalse de forma alargada de unos 13 kilómetros de longitud y 412 ha. de superficie. No es excesivamente profundo, con una media en torno a los 8-10 metros y sectores rondando más de 20 metros en la zona de la presa.

 
Como muchos otros de la geografía española se construyó durante la dictadura franquista, su principal utilidad es la del abastecimiento de agua potable para las localidades cercanas y para el regadío de los campos manchegos, también es muy conocido por los amantes de la pesca que cada fin de semana toman las orillas del embalse en busca de una captura digna de fotografía.

 Da inicio al Parque Natural Lagunas de las Ruidera. Por tanto es de gran importancia como refugio de fauna, sobre todo de avifauna, también destaca por sus valores en materia de pesca deportiva. Junto a la presa y dominando el antiguo estrecho, podemos visitar su fortaleza medieval, donde se encuentra la Capilla de Nuestra Sra. de Peñarroya. 

Peñarroya's dam is the first artificial barrier that are the waters of the Guadiana river. It is an elongated reservoir about 13 kilometers long and 412 ha. surface. It is not too deep, averaging around 8-10 meters and sectors hovering over 20 meters in the area of the dam.

CASTILLO DE PEÑARROYA

Fortaleza de origen musulman ubicada en el termino municipal de Argamasilla de Alba y a 12 km de este municipio. Este castillo se encuentra sobre un acantilado en un tramo del río Guadiana que da a la presa del embalse de Peñarroya.

El castillo ha sufrido varias restauraciones, conserva la torre del homenaje, un aljibe. Ademas presenta una iglesia del siglo XII. Esta iglesia sirve de capilla para la virgen de Peñarroya patrona de Argamasilla de alba y de La Solana. 
En Abril y Septiembre se realiza en esta fortaleza y sus alrededores la romería en honor a la patrona.



Muslim fortres located 12 Km from the village of Argamasilla de Alba.This castle is located on a cliff on a stretch of the Guadiana river overlooking the dam of Peñarroya.
The castle there have been several restorations, retained the keep, a cistern. It also has a church of the twelfth century. This church serves as a chapel for the patron of Argamasilla de Alba and La Solana, the virgin of Peñarronya.

 In April and September take place a pilgrimage in honor of the virgin.

ARGAMASILLA DE ALBA

Pequeña localidad situada en el corazón de la mancha. Este pueblo esta muy ligado culturalmente al Quijote, habiendo albergado incluso un pleno de la RAE en 2015. También se realizan multitud de actos relacionados no solo de ámbito académico. Entre los más destacados "el Quijote en la calle" en el que cada año son representados algunos pasajes del libro.

 En ella se encuentra la "cueva de Medrano", donde según los estudiosos del Quijote estuvo preso Don Miguel  de Cervantes y presumiblemente inició la escritura de este gran clásico Universal.

Argamasilla de Alba da inicio a la Ruta de Don Quijote.Un monolito de piedra atestigüa el Km 0 de la ruta.

Small town in the heart of  "La Mancha". This village has a close relation with Quixote's culture. A RAE meeting took place there in 2015. There are a lot of events, the most popular is "El Quijote en la calle" is a theatrical representation of some of the passages of the book.

It is the "Medrano cave," where according to scholars of  Don Quixote, Miguel de Cervantes was imprisoned and presumably began writing this great Universal classic.
 
Argamasilla de Alba begins the Route of Don Quixote. A stone monolith testifies the Km 0 of the route.

"En un lugar de la mancha de cuyo nombre no quiero acordarme..." que mejor manera de comenzar este blog que con uno de los comienzos más universales de nuestra literatura.
